12th Annual Spelling Bee Contest!
The PTA is excited to sponsor the Orchard School 12th Annual Spelling Bee Contest this 2022-23 school year!
The event has been a great success in the past years and we would like to continue to support this event for the students at Orchard School. A couple of years ago, our school Champion went all the way to the Bay Area Spelling Bee Finals. It was a historic moment for Orchard School! Plus some of our Orchard School spelling bee participants appeared in a special TV documentary on KPIX!
Together with your help, we can make it happen again this year!
Similar to previous years, the contest will have two rounds. The first round is a grade level (1st-8th) written test to be conducted by the classroom teachers. Students with a test score of 25, 100% correct, will advance to the school level oral competition. One final champion will be representing Orchard School at the Written Semi-Final Spelling Bee contest. Qualified students will advance to the Bay Area Oral Spelling Bee Finals. The winner of the Bay Area Spelling Bee will be participating in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington D.C.
Our Spelling Bee test dates are:
Grade level written test – 12/12-16/2022
School level oral competition – January 25, 2023 - more info here
Teachers have already received the required materials and may have sent the study lists home to your students. If you have not yet received the study list, please inquire with your child's teacher. Be sure to ask your child's teacher which day the written test is scheduled on. In addition, more information can be found at this website: www.spellingbee.com. Parents and students are welcome to visit this website for additional details on Word Club, a new online subscription tool to help students to study.
